Registering with a new dentist may not be a priority after a house move. If you've moved away, you know that you need to find a dentist in your new area at some point. But, if you don't need a check-up for a while, you may put this on the back burner.

However, it's a good idea to find a new clinic sooner rather than later. Even if you don't need to see a dentist for a few months, registering ahead of time has some benefits. What are they?

1. Stay on Schedule With Check-ups

If you put off finding a new dentist in your neighbourhood, then you may miss a trick later. It's easy to plan to find a clinic closer to the time when you need a check-up; however, you may let things slide and forget to do this.

If you don't have a dentist reminding you that you're due a check-up, then you may not see a dentist when you should. You may develop dental problems that could have been avoided or treated easily at a regular check-up.

If you register early, then you'll be on the clinic's reminder system. So, your new dentist will keep you on track with your regular appointments.

2. Get Your Records Transferred

While you don't have to have your old dental records transferred to a new dentist, this may be worth doing, especially if you've had a lot of complex treatment or regular problems in the past. Your new dentist will then have a history that they can consult if you need treatment in the future.

Your new clinic can get copies of your records from your old dentist if you give them permission to do this; however, this may take a little time. If you register early, you can ask the clinic to get copies during the registration process. Your records are then likely to be in their system when you do need to see the dentist.

3. Get Quicker Appointments

While you may not mind waiting to get a regular appointment, there may be times when you need to see a dentist more urgently. Joining a clinic early may make this an easier process.

For example, if you have a dental problem that needs quick treatment, and you aren't registered with a clinic yet, then you may have a longer wait to be seen. If you manage to get a quick appointment, you'll have to go through the registration process first.

If you're already registered as a patient, then your clinic will have you on their system. This may simply speed up the process for you and get you in front of a dentist more quickly.

So, don't wait to find a new dentist in your area, think ahead and register with one as soon as you can. For more information, contact local professionals like those found at Care Dental.
